If your university sits on a firm's target list, the date that binds you is often not the one on the public graduate page. Campus rounds for the 2027 cycle run to the careers service calendar and can close weeks ahead of the site-wide deadline, because firms want campus candidates through assessment before the general pool opens. The two dates are rarely published together. If you find only one, ask the firm's campus contact which one applies to you.
Consulting keeps a separate door for advanced degree candidates. The larger strategy firms run a distinct route for PhD, postdoctoral, medical, legal and MBA applicants, and it leads into the same associate level work. You apply through that stream rather than the undergraduate one.
Two things are worth confirming with a recruiter rather than assuming. Entry grade first: firms differ on whether a doctorate places you level with an MBA hire or a step below with an early review. Timing second: advanced degree windows can sit outside the autumn undergraduate cycle, and some firms speak to doctoral candidates more than a year before a start date. Neither is standard across the market.
A finalist in engineering, history, medicine or natural sciences with no consulting exposure is a normal applicant here, not a gap to be explained. The screen wants two things your subject may not signal on its own: comfort with numbers under time pressure, and evidence you have driven something to a finish. A dissertation you designed counts. A society you rebuilt counts. Banking is a different market, because most analyst seats go to converting summer interns, see /tracker/finance-graduate-scheme. What the consulting interviews test is set out on /tracker/consulting-summer-internship.
No firm publishes the split between interns converted and graduates hired directly, so treat any precise percentage you find online as unsourced. What can be said plainly is that consulting firms advertise a general graduate intake every cycle alongside their conversions, and they fill it. Direct entry is a real route here, not a formality.
The subject base is unusually wide. Economics and management sit next to physics, engineering, mathematics, history, modern languages, law and medicine, and the strategy firms take doctoral candidates from fields with no commercial content at all. Big Four consulting arms recruit a similarly broad range into larger intakes. Subject is close to neutral; quantitative fluency you can demonstrate is not. Windows by firm are listed on /tracker.
Yes. Firms run a general graduate intake for the 2027 cycle alongside their internship conversions, and they hire finalists with no consulting on the CV. You go through the same interviews as everyone else, not a shorter route.
The campus one, where it exists. It usually closes first and is published through your careers service rather than the firm's main graduate page. Ask the campus contact to confirm which round you are being considered in.
Usually not. The larger strategy firms run a separate advanced degree route for doctoral, postdoctoral, medical and legal applicants that leads to the same associate level work. Confirm the entry grade, since firms place advanced degrees differently.
Rarely on its own. Firms hire across sciences, humanities, law and medicine. What they will not skip is evidence you can handle quantitative work, so if your degree does not show that, your examples have to.
Often, and it varies by firm. McKinsey uses Solve. What each screen contains, and how to prepare for it, is covered on /tracker/consulting-summer-internship.
