A degree apprenticeship at a bank is a job with a degree attached, so the firm recruits on the employer's calendar rather than the university's. Most of the programmes in this table open between late August and the autumn half term of Year 13, some months before a university decision has to be made, and a handful run windows measured in weeks rather than months. Barclays is the clearest example this cycle: the whole apprenticeship set posted in one batch and carries a single closing date a fortnight later.
Because the same firm is also opening its graduate scheme in the same weeks, the apprenticeship row and the graduate row on this tracker tend to move together. If a firm you want reads TBC here, its graduate timing on finance graduate tracker is the best guide to when the apprenticeship will follow. The wider cycle is sequenced on the main tracker.
The number on an English apprenticeship is its position on the qualifications framework, and it decides both what you finish with and how long you are on the programme. Level 3 sits at A-level standard and is usually a one to two year operations or customer role. Level 4 is the first year of a degree or a higher national certificate. Level 6 is a full bachelor's degree, which is what most people mean by a degree apprenticeship, and typically runs three to four years. Level 7 is master's standard, and in finance it usually means a professional qualification such as the chartered accountancy route rather than a taught master's.
The employer pays the tuition, so there is no student loan for the degree element, and you are salaried from the first day. Firms publish their own pay and the figure changes by location and year, which is why the table links to the firm's posting rather than repeating it.
A university applicant is assessed on a transcript the firm can weigh. A school leaver has predicted or achieved A-levels and little else, so the eligibility line on the posting does real work: it is usually expressed as UCAS points or a set of specific grades, sometimes with a GCSE maths and English floor, and it is applied before a human reads the form.
After that gate the process at most large banks is the same machinery the graduate intake meets, often on the same assessment vendor: an online test or game-based assessment, a recorded video interview, and an assessment centre. The difference is the evidence you are asked for. A group exercise cannot draw on an internship you have not had, so it draws on school, part-time work and anything you have run, and the stronger answers are the ones that give a decision you took and what changed because of it rather than a list of activities.
A bank does not open one apprenticeship. It opens a set, across divisions and offices, and the postings can close on different days. This tracker carries one row per firm and the closing date on it is the latest in that firm's set, so a row never reads Closed while a sister programme is still taking applications. The apply link goes to the firm's own search page, where the per-role dates sit. Read the row as the outer bound and the posting as the deadline.
Most firms also take one live application per candidate at a time, so choosing between two apprenticeships at the same bank is a decision to settle before the form, not after. Where the school-leaver route is a professional accountancy qualification rather than a degree, consulting and accountancy apprenticeship tracker covers how that path is built and screened.
No. Most programmes recruit in the autumn of Year 13 on predicted grades and confirm the offer against results in August. Read the eligibility line on each posting, since firms express it as UCAS points or as specific grades.
No. A degree apprentice is employed from the start and studies for the degree part-time, funded by the employer. A graduate scheme takes people who already hold a degree. Both routes usually lead to the same permanent roles.
Level 6 is bachelor's degree standard, which is what most people call a degree apprenticeship. Level 7 is master's standard and in finance usually means a professional qualification. Level 3 and 4 programmes are shorter and sit below degree level.
Yes, and most people do, because the apprenticeship decision often lands before a university place has to be accepted. Nothing stops you holding both until you have to choose.
The row carries the latest closing date across every apprenticeship the firm is running, so it never hides a programme that is still open. The individual posting on the firm's site is the date that applies to that role.
